The Japanese Kanji “蝶 (ちょう-chou)” means “butterfly”. We usually call butterfly as “蝶々 (ちょうちょう-chouchou)” in Japan. And the symbol “々” is just a symbol and has no specific pronunciation itself. The original word of “蝶々” is “蝶蝶 (ちょうちょう-chouchou)” and like this example, we use the symbol “々” when the same kanji is used successively and pronounce the original kanji pronunciation.
