Bird names in Japanese Kanji

鳥-Kanji for birds

This time I tried to write some birds names in Japanese Kanji. The left side kanji “鳥(とり-tori, ちょう-chou) ” means birds, and many of birds names contain the letter of 鳥 when they are written in Japanese Kanji as you can see in the following lists of bird names.

In the following list I mentioned about Swan (白鳥) and Black Swan (黒鳥). The kanji 白(しろ or はく – “shiro” or “haku”) means white and 黒(くろ or こく – “kuro” or “koku”) means black.

And I want to mention about 雷鳥. As I described in the following list, 雷鳥 is Japanese name for Ptarmigan. But the Japanese Kabji “雷(らい or かみなり – rai or kaminari)” means thunder so if I translate the 雷鳥 according to the Kanji meaning, the 雷鳥 can be translated as thunder bird.
