The Japanese kanji word “以心伝心 (いしんでんしん-ishindenshin)” means “tacit understanding”.
The Japanese kanji symbol “以 (い-i)” (#15 in my Jouyou kanji list) is a kind of particular kanji and indicate causes, results, reasons etc. Here are some Japanese kanji words in which the kanji character “以” is contained.
以前 (いぜん-izen) means “before (some point of time)”. We use this word like a following example; 私は以前彼に会たことがある。 (watashi ha izen kare ni atta koto ga aru)- I have met him before.
以来 (いらい-irai) means “after (some point of time)”. We use this word like a following example; 私は最初にテレビで見て以来、日本のアニメのファンです。 (watashi ha saisho ni terebi de mite irai, nihon no anime no fan desu)- I’m a fan of Japanese Anime since I first watched it on my TV.
以外 (いがい-igai) means “other than or except (something)”. We use this word like a following example; 我々には、戦う以外に道は無い。 (wareware niha, tatakau igai ni michi ha nai)- We don’t have any way except fighting.
