Fish Names in Japanese Kanji

魚-Kanji for fish

In this post I tried to write some fish names in Japanese Kanji. The left side kanji “魚 (さかな-sakana, うお-uo or ぎょ-gyo) ” means fish, and as you can easily notice most of following Japanese fish names have “魚” letters on the left side of each kanji symbol.

And not only for fish names we use character “魚” for other animals such as “鯱 (しゃち-shachi)” and “鯨 (くじら-kujira)”. 鯱 means killer whale and 鯨 means whale.

I didn’t include “koi or carp” on the following list. But if you want to see the Japanese kanji image for “koi or carp” please click the link.
