Kanji Chikau-Swear

We use the word "誓う(ちかう - chikau)" for the word "swear" in Japanese language. And we have a few related words in which we use the kanji "誓" in them like the following examples; "誓願(せいがん - seigan)" means "vow" and "誓約(せいやく - seiyaku)" means "pledge" etc.

And we use the word "誓う" like the following examples.

  • "彼は最善を尽くすことを心の中で誓った(kare ha saizen wo tsukusu kotowo kokoro no naka de chikatta)." - He swore to do his best in his mind.
  • "彼女はこの国を救うことを神に誓った(kanojo ha kono kuni wo sukuu koto wo kami ni chikatta)." - She swore to the god to save this country.
