The Japanese kanji character “医 (い-i)” has meaning for curing or medicine. Here are some Japanese kanji words in which the kanji character “医” is contained.

医者 (いしゃ-isha) means a doctor. And for more specifically, “内科医” (ないかい-naikai) means a physician, “外科医” (げかい-gekai) means a surgeon, “眼科医” (がんかい-gankai) means an oculist and “歯科医” (しかい-shikai) means a dentist.

女医 (じょい-joi) means a female doctor.

獣医 (じゅうい-juui) means a veterinarian. The Japanese kanji symbol “獣” (じゅう-juu or けもの-kemono) usually indicates mammal animals.

医院 (いいん-iin) means a clinic. And for a hospital we use the Japanese word 病院 (びょういん-byouin).
